Report No. 224/2026 presents the minutes of Area Committee meetings held during September 2026.
Main issues
Dublin City Council is divided into five Local Administrative Areas. They are used to coordinate the delivery of services into local communities. Area Committee meetings are held once a month. Each committee handles operational matters such as road maintenance and traffic issues. They also work at a strategic level on local matters such as planning and local area plans. The monthly minutes are brought to the full council as a report. This lets all councillors see what each area committee discussed and what management committed to. Donnybrook, Milltown and the Lower Mercer Street area fall under the South East Area Committee.
The Eglinton Road/Sandford Road junction sits on a busy corridor. Eglinton Road (R824) starts at the junction with Milltown Road, Sandford Road and Clonskeagh Road. Residents and councillors have raised concerns about the area before. In June 2025 the South East committee minutes recorded a request for measures to ease traffic dangers between Clonskeagh/Sandford Road and Milltown. I could not find published details of the new scheme itself. Citizens can check the council's consultation portal and the South East Area Committee page on the council meetings site for the design and any submission deadlines.
Nearby changes are also under way. The council's Citizen Space portal has carried a consultation on traffic calming on Belmont Avenue, particularly at its junction with Sandford Road. The options include restricting vehicle access and adding cycle and pedestrian crossing measures.
In Irish local government, councillors set the policy framework. A chief executive runs each council and is responsible for services such as roads. Disagreements over how much councillors and residents are consulted on traffic and active travel schemes are therefore common. Area committee presentations are one of the main ways residents and councillors can question officials before works start.
