Strategic Policy Committees (SPCs) advise Dublin City Council on policy. Dublin City Council has seven SPCs reflecting its main functions, including Climate Action and Urban Resilience. Their statutory basis is Section 48 of the Local Government Act 2001, as amended in 2014. The full Council stays the decision-making authority, and the final decision on strategic issues rests with it. The Climate Action and Urban Resilience SPC has 15 members: 10 councillors and 5 sectoral members. In May 2025 the Council set up a new Climate and Urban Resilience Department, which gave climate projects a renewed focus.
The Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) is a different kind of body. It was introduced after the "Putting People First" programme of 2012, and the Local Government Reform Act 2014 gave it a statutory basis. It brings together Dublin City Council representatives, other state agencies, and social and economic partners. It prepares and implements the community element of the Dublin City Local Economic and Community Plan 2024–2029, and it monitors delivery of that plan. It also administers the Community Enhancement Programme in the Dublin City area.
St. Patrick's Festival is the organisation that runs the national St. Patrick's Day events in Dublin. Its backers include the Irish Government, Fáilte Ireland, Dublin City Council and the Arts Council. Its board of directors includes the Lord Mayor, and its chair was appointed in January 2026 by the Minister for Enterprise, Tourism & Employment. The council's nominee therefore gives elected members a direct link to how a heavily publicly supported festival is governed. The next festival runs from 13 to 17 March 2027.
